of the First Kiss ..."

…and its flavor in this,
The First Kiss.

…It descended on me
And rubbed me raw
In the memory,
Not in the tasting
Which was known
But caked with Time,
But in the old faces
Which were not known
Before I licked them
Into some new kind
Of beings.
Is that you?
Touching me?
Before I forget –
Hold onto me, and I will
Drive us there
Where I used to care
But did not see you coming
This time.
Well, there’s nothing else for it.
Make it rhyme.
Pandora knows this kiss.
It was hers once.
Now it is mine…

…I was arching toward it
Before I realized
It had passed
And nothing was left of me
That would last.
So I gave it up --
Who I had intended to be.
And decided to wing it.
What’s the difference
Between a life – a love? –
Intended
And one you stumble on
When you’re spinning
And miss a turn
And chase it down --
A sudden frown –
Oops!
Birth!

I have come to Earth
To be with you.
And we were way too long
In getting up
And around.
I had simply missed a turn.
Or was it always
Supposed to be
And what I missed
Was just the last step
Before Galilee?
Who could see what
Was written
Before it came to me
That I was supposed
To be here?
Had always been here.
Had always been.
Had.  Always.
And then –
Oops!
Death!

I didn’t see that coming.
Only yesterday I
Had missed my turn
And you were far away.
Deep Red in me
Began to rise
And everyone could see it
In my eyes,
The bloom there; who
Knew it was so colorful?
This time I had intended
That blooming death
Before I started birth
And the turn was just
As sweet.
I kept my eyes on
   Its highs,
   Milking eternity
   For all it was
   Worth.
Unintended, I walked
Right into it again.
Ah.
This kiss of Eternity.
My old friend.

…And I knew its lips
And its flavor
In this, the First Kiss…
