I put a Rose
Where you could
Notice it.
It knows
What to do
With you.
And so do
I.

Why is gentleness
So hard for you
When I touch you
There?
A long bow for
A quiver?
Arrows in
That river…
Why do you
Always shiver
There?
Where I care
How much you
Say about it?
Trying to convince
Me it
Wasn’t you
Who wanted this
To be in you,
This heart
And cry of childhood
You’d like to cover
Over with denial
Of burst,
Hold it in,
Don’t let it out
Or I will know
That you really
Want me
To go slow
When you’re inside
This hall and
Bound.
A short journey
Into the
End game
And you’re spread
Out with eternity
To tow you,
Blissfully regaling
The gentleness
That led you there
And the tear
In it where you
Slipped through.

I told you that Rose
Would know
What to do
When it got to you.
Blossoms bloom
In the deepest places
And on their
Faces
Are the surprises
Of your flare,
Your hair askew.
They knew you
Anyway and
Opened.
The gentle deep
Where you would
Weep for life and
She for you,
But for the
Rose, the corsage
In that
Red cheek
Not too embarrassed
To glow.
Never be afraid
To go slow down there,
To show it where
To go.
Oh, no.
It’s not too much
For me to touch.
I’ve always known
You there.
A life long
Seeping of
One universe
Into the
Shared seams
Of another.
Kings. Queens.
A dare.
Would you know
This life
Anywhere?
